About Tikvah: From Uber Driver to uber Writer

Updated: Oct 3

Tikvah (Hebrew for Hope), given the name Ilana (Hebrew for Tree), is a Germany Born, Colorado Springs, CO raised, current Arizonian pop artist and songstress. With an Eastern world meets Western world vibe, Tikvah tributes her sound to her Black and Jewish/Israeli heritage. Tikvah discovered her love for music through the art of belly dance. She could shimmy and shake before she could talk and was influenced by Israeli, MENA, Mizrahi, and Arab music including the melismatic voices of Ofra Haza and Sarit Hadad along with Black women artists such as Beyonce and Rihanna.

Tikvah discovered her vocal chops through the public school system beginning with her elementary school teacher Ms. English who awarded her her first solo all the way into high school through competitive choir, musicianship, community ensembles, and musical theatre. Living in an unstable home environment riddled with domestic violence and later a single-mother family raised home, the creative arts were always her escape from the trauma. She immersed herself in dance, drama, poetry, music, and songwriting.

After attending Berklee College of Music, PPCC, and Arizona State University, with the encouragement from her mother, Sareet, she eventually graduated with her degree in Music Therapy.

Following graduation, she found herself in a struggle mentally, financially, and everywhere in between. Instead of finding a stable job, she found herself close to homelessness, using credit cards to pay for meals and fix her car. "Despite my struggle, I kept writing. I went from an Uber driver, driving deliveries, to an uber writer. Writing and creating as much as possible no matter the obstacle. Now, I am finally at the point where basic needs are no longer a constant worry. I have the opportunity to take my voice to the next level," Tikvah explains. Her discography includes, released single "Nasty Woman," with over 40,000 streams on Spotify, along with her debut singles, "L.T.T.W (Let's Travel The World)" by Tikvah and Warren Christian and "Feeling Fine."

Due to Tikvah's exposure to various musical influences, she is able to seamlessly write in pop, R&B, indie, Neo-soul, Hip Hop, future bass, and funk styles along with many others. Through her top line lyrics and melodies she accesses deep human connection and experience. She also believes justice and music are inseparable and often connects the two in her music and advocacy. Tikvah has a wide pallet for genres besides her personal song niche. She finds her joy, peace, and bliss in creating music for others and their own personal journeys. She cares deeply about connecting artists and families to their personal journey. Currently, she continues to Boss her way to writing, co-writing, performing, and releasing music along with running her own personalized songwriting business. Tikvah strongly believes in Tzedekah. 10% of all Tikvah music profits is dedicated to charity and justice.
